It’s
incredibly easy to find young people in our community giving back. They are
volunteering at area camps and schools. They are pitching in to clean up or
enhance our public spaces. They are participating in memory walks and road
races. They are organizing donation drives and raising awareness or funds for
various causes and charities.
These
young people are finding ways to turn their genuine compassion and empathy into
proven achievements and results. It is this real action that is most inspiring.
This
week, I’m thrilled to feature two stories about some local elementary
schoolchildren making a difference. And if you happen to know someone of any
age that deserves an extra shout out, please email me at aroundmarshfield@gmail.com.
You can also call or text me at 617-775-1371. I’d love to share your stories
with our community and encourage others to get involved. Hope to hear from you
soon!
Lemonade
for a cause
A group
of Gov. Winslow Elementary school students recently helped raise money for the
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, an organization dedicated to eliminating
childhood cancer. Started by Alexandra “Alex” Scott, a young girl who lost her
battle with cancer at the age of 8, the national foundation has donated millions
of dollars to support lifesaving childhood cancer research.
The
group of local volunteers set up their lemonade stand at the Boys & Girls
Club fields during the last games of the Marshfield Youth Soccer season. As the
teams played, the kids ran up and down the sidelines, politely asking
spectators if they would like to purchase “refreshing lemonade for a good
cause!” They had many eager and happy customers! By the end of the day, they
had raised a total of $308.72 to donate to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
Thank
you to Josh Albert, Max Albert, Eloise Albert, Aidan Delaney, Avery Clark, Jack
Doherty, Andrew Youngworth, Joseph Russo, Jack LaPorte and The Cochran family.
Your hard work is greatly appreciated. Well done!

Kindness rocks
The
Jackalope Foundation, a charity started by 9-year-old Alyssa Budd of
Marshfield, recently hosted a “Kindness Rocks” fundraising event at the North
Community Church Parish Hall in Marshfield Hills. The three-hour event featured
a DJ and dancing, a photo booth, games, and a buffet of delicious food and
treats. Through ticket sales and raffles, the Jackalope Foundation raised more
than $300, which will be used to support its mission of spreading “sunshine and
optimism” through acts of kindness, volunteerism and charitable events and
donations.See more
