While
there were probably many cookouts this Memorial Day weekend, on special one was
giving back to the community.
Suncrest
United Methodist Church held a Give-Back Cookout at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park in
Morgantown to feed those in need of a hot meal and bring everyone together.
This is
the second time the church has done this as a way to help the organizations in
the city who feed the hungry every other day and give them a day with their
families.
“Thinking
about those who need a little bit of help, this is one of the ways our Church
decided to give back,” said Rob Alsop who attends Suncrest United Methodist
Church. “There are people at the Salvation Army and the Bartlett House that are
always helping and so we wanted to be helpful this weekend.”
“We’re
hearing lots of wonderful stories and lots of sad stories as well, but it’s
good just to know people that are just as much a part of our community as
anybody,” said Tim Halloran, one of the Pastors of Suncrest United Methodist.
“We should be inclusive of everyone.”
The
Church is also planning another Give-Back Cookout for Labor Day.
